Mark Meier joined the Commission’s Legal Division in June of 1984 following two years with a private law firm specializing in business and real estate. Since then, he has worked in all aspects of the Commission’s responsibilities, focusing primarily on oil spill prevention, oil and gas production and transportation, marine invasive species control, shipping, seawater cooling, desalination, the California Environmental Quality Act, geophysical surveys, natural resource damage assessment, alternative energy, legislation, and regulatory development and enforcement. He has served as Chief Counsel since January of 2013. Mark has a B.A. in Philosophy from U.C. Berkeley and, in 1982, earned a J.D. from U.C. Davis.
